If you have recently given birth in Cebu, you will need to file a live birth certificate to officially register the child’s birth. The process is relatively simple and can be done at the Civil Registrar’s Office in Cebu City.

A Certificate of Live Birth, or COLB, is created when a child is born to document all important details surrounding the birth. The child’s parents review and sign the COLB before submitting it to the Local Civil Registry Office where the birth took place. A birth record is then made for the child at that office, and PSA certification takes place soon after. Finally, the Child receives a PSA Birth Certificate.

Many of life’s transactions will necessitate presenting a PSA birth certificate. This ranges from early childhood milestones such as starting preschool to taking college entrance exams and licensure exams, opening bank accounts, applying for a passport, and more.

The birth registration process must be completed within 30 days of the child’s birth. A report filed after these 30 days is considered delayed and will be reflected as such on the person’s birth certificate.
